Festivals
The Alsace Region offers a lot of various and interesting festivals.
Festivals are a great way to discover this charming region and its
gastronomy. The festivals of the Alsace Region are mostly related
to Christmas, Tradition, Wines and Music. The main ones, located
in different cities, are presented to you below.
The
Christmas Market of Strasbourg (le Marché de Noel de Strasbourg)
Since
1570, every year in December, Strasbourg celebrates Christmas. The
roads of the city centre are decorated and animated. The places
are full of little chalets that sale either food and drinks, Christmas
decorations or traditional objects made by craftsmen. Festivities
are organised around the Christmas markets. The markets are attracting
a lot of tourists coming from all over the world, but also the citizens
of Strasbourg and the Alsace Region. Thanks to its Christmas market,
Strasbourg is called "the Capital of Christmas". More
information and the dates of the festivities are available on the
official Web site of the Christmas Market of Strasbourg (http://www.noel-strasbourg.com).
This year, the Christmas Market of Strasbourg was open from the
end of November to the 24th of December. Many other charming villages
hold a Christmas market. For example, the city of Kaysersberg offers
the visitors a guided visit of the city and its Christmas path.
The
Wine Fair of Colmar (la Foire aux Vins de Colmar)
Colmar
is the alsacian capital of wines. The Wine Fair of Colmar is a big
event in the Alsace Region as it gathers more than 200,000 visitors
over a 10 days period. More than 350 businesses are exposing their
products (mainly wine and food) and famous singers are coming to
sing in front of 10,000 people. Last year famous bands and singers
included Pink, Massive Attack, Europe and The Offspring. More information
and the dates of the concerts and festivities are available on the
official Web site of the Wine Fair of Colmar (http://www.foire-colmar.com).
